Powerfully Imperfect

Why Showing Up In Progress Is More Powerful Than Waiting Until It’s Perfect.

Some days on LinkedIn, I find myself pausing before I post—not because I don’t have something to say, but because it doesn’t feel polished enough. There’s so much thoughtful, well-designed content out there, and it’s easy to slip into the mindset that things need to be perfectly packaged to be worth sharing. To show up as powerfully imperfect.

But what I’ve been noticing (in myself and in others) is that the content that actually connects? It’s not “perfect”. It’s real. Messy. In progress. Human.

This week’s reflection is all about this truth:

Progress > Perfection
Consistency > Curation
Real > Rehearsed

What Sparked This Reflection

Time over time, I have reconsidered my posts. Just last week, I almost didn’t post something last week because it felt half-baked. It wasn’t tied up in a bow. I kept telling myself: “This needs more time. More polish.”

But I hit publish anyway, and the responses constantly remind me why I’m doing this.

People messaged me. Left comments. One person even said:

“I needed to hear that it was okay to not have it all figured out.”

That cracked something open for me. I could show up as powerfully imperfect and it was okay to share my vulnerabilities.

Why This Is a Powerful Move Right Now

Here’s the thing: everyone’s busy trying to look like they’ve got it all together. But when you show up with what’s actually true?

That’s what people remember.

It makes you relatable
Nobody wants to learn from a robot. Let people in on the real stuff—it builds trust.

It builds deeper trust
When you’re honest about your learning, people believe you more—not less.

It sparks actual conversations
Not just likes. Comments, DMs, connection. The good stuff.

Start Here: What This Is (and Isn’t)

This isn’t about being unprepared or reckless.

It’s about:

  • Being honest while you’re still learning
  • Trusting that your in-progress thoughts still have value
  • Making space for others to say, “me too”

You don’t need to have it all figured out to offer something meaningful.

Three Ways to Play With This on LinkedIn This Week

  1. Share a messy insight
What’s something you’re working through right now? Doesn’t have to be finished. Doesn’t have to be tidy. Share the middle.
  2. Ask a question you don’t have an answer to
Example: “How do you stay consistent when motivation is low?” Let others chime in. You don’t need to be the expert all the time.
  3. Revisit something you once over-polished
That post you saved as a draft because it wasn’t ‘ready’? Bring it back. Show people the first version. Talk about how your thinking evolved.

Three Post Ideas You Can Try This Week

These build on the blog, but take it further with fresh inspiration to be powerfully imperfect:

  1. The “Not Quite There Yet” Post
Share a goal or project you’re still in the middle of. Let people in on the journey before it’s done.
  2. The “Permission Slip” Post
Talk about a moment when you gave yourself permission to do something imperfectly—and what happened as a result.
  3. The “Learning Out Loud” Post
Share one small thing you’re learning right now, even if it’s messy or contradictory.

Bonus Prompt: If You’re Still Hesitating

Try filling in the blank:

“This post isn’t perfect, but I’m sharing it anyway because _______.”

(Then post it.)

Signs You’re On Track

  • You feel a little nervous before hitting “post”
  • You’re sharing something honest, not just curated
  • Someone says, “I thought it was just me”

Final Reminder

You don’t need a perfect post to show up powerfully. You just need to show up. Real builds trust and momentum. Real is what we remember.

Let this week be your reminder to post before you’re ready, post to be powerfully imperfect.

P.S. If you’re stuck on something or curious how I’d approach it, feel free to send me a message—your question might even inspire a future post.
